FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Lorton, VA — May 18, 2026 — The Sherry Black Foundation (SBF), a private nonprofit organization dedicated to advocating for victims of violent crime, today announced a partnership with Bode Technology, a leading provider of forensic DNA analysis services, to support law enforcement agencies working to solve violent crime cases.

Founded to provide resources that advance homicide investigations, the Sherry Black Foundation works closely with law enforcement by offering training, case consultation, and investigative support. Through this partnership, SBF and Bode Technology will expand access to advanced forensic DNA testing for cases that may otherwise lack the resources needed to move forward.

The Sherry Black Foundation was established in 2017 by Heidi and Greg Miller following the tragic murder of Heidi’s mother, Sherry Black. In the aftermath of their loss, the Millers worked alongside investigators, navigating the complexities of the justice system, identifying critical resources, and uncovering gaps in support for violent crime investigations. Their experience led to the creation of SBF, with a mission to ensure other families and investigators have access to the tools and expertise needed to pursue justice.

As part of the collaboration, Bode Technology will provide limited pro bono forensic DNA analysis on evidence related to violent crime cases, directly supporting law enforcement agencies working with the Sherry Black Foundation. SBF and Bode Technology will work together to establish priorities and processes for referring cases, ensuring that resources are directed where they can have the greatest impact.

Too many violent crimes remain unsolved. According to data highlighted by the Sherry Black Foundation, only 48% of violent crimes are cleared, including just 36% of sexual assaults and 54% of homicides. Both organizations share a commitment to advancing justice by increasing access to forensic testing, supporting investigators, and ensuring no case is left behind.

“Families don’t stop waiting when a case goes cold. Through this partnership, we are helping provide investigators with critical forensic tools that can create new leads, renew momentum, and bring long-awaited answers to families who have carried the weight of uncertainty for far too long,” said Erin Ryan, Executive Director, Sherry Black Foundation.

“I have admired the amazing work done by the SBF for many years now. It is an honor to officially assist them in their mission to provide specialized DNA testing for Law -Enforcement, and a chance at answers and justice for families. I cannot thank Sherry’s family enough for courageously channeling their loss and grief into an organization that does so much for so many. Every unsolved case deserves equal resources and attention. We applaud the SBF for their efforts to make this happen” said Dr. Angela Williamson, Vice President of Cold Case Solutions & Special Initiatives, Bode Technology.

By working collaboratively, the Sherry Black Foundation and Bode Technology aim to remove barriers to forensic testing, strengthen investigative efforts, and provide families with the answers they deserve.

SBF encourages continued support for efforts that advance justice for victims and their families, whether through collaboration, training, or advocacy.
